Westgate Chapel was formed in the mid 1970s when a group of Christians meeting in the Congregational chapel in Barrow decided to move into Bury St Edmunds. Meeting at first in the Westley estate community centre, the church then bought the premises of the Eastern Electricity social club and, after many additions and alterations we use the same building in Hospital Road today.
Today the church is made up of a diverse group of people who are united by their faith in God, their hope of salvation through his son the Lord Jesus Christ and their belief in the truth of the Bible. Some have been Christians for many years and others have joined more recently. Not everyone who comes to the church is a Christian because we are glad to welcome those who are looking for something or who simply enjoy being part of a loving community.
